Athes is demon from the alternate Cythera world. In his reality, mages pursued learning in how to conjure demons (since demons are beings of magic). This led to more and more manipulation and creation of demons. In the Dark Mirror TS it's learned that Saltwax and other forces created large demon armies of varrying strengths. These demons would not be considered in the same class as Athes. Athes is a demon born of naturally occuring magical activity (i.e. hellspawn). He considers the new waves of demons as abominations, slaves, and needing of extermination. Athes was picked up by Firecat after Athes slaughtered a demon troupe sent to kill him. Athes knows that Firecat was involved in sending the troupes, and also knows that he works (or at least used to) work under Saltwax, one of the main users of magic-spawned demons. Firecat gained Athes' help through offering a way to destroy all magic-spawned demons, as well as their production. In the DM TS Athes was instrumental in burrying the demon troupes that had been sent to the original Cythera, causing a cave in the killed and burried most of the small army. He then hunted down those that escaped and then caught up with Sage after doing it again in Catamarca. Even though Athes works under Firecat, it doesn't mean he likes how Firecat opperates (or Firecat himself). The demon would prefer a straight forward approach of facing the enemy, rather than the covert ways of attack Firecat usually sets up. Athes and Firecat's relationship contains a lot of tension and butting of heads. Athes knows that Firecat is stronger than him, even though sometimes his pride will lead the demon to challenge him anyways. Firecat has never taken direct control of Athes, nor could he given Athes' strong will against him. Athes main motivation is in restoring balance to the world through violence. He does not tend to see solutions to problems as changing the bend of the river, rather just damming the river all together (ending it). His main goal is to restore demons back to their natural order. His secondary goals were gained after meeting Firecat and learning of the elemental disbalance in the alternate Cythera. In his perfect vision he would not have Normal Cythera, he would have a Cythera where his kind are more plentiful. A place where strength and truth ruled supreme. Athes will not hesitate to tell the truth to those he thinks have earned it. He only lied to the group in the beginning of Out of Reflection because he was ordered to. He is under orders not to reveal Sage's true name however. Though Athes has these ideals at heart, it does not mean he does not get distracted from them. He takes humor in others being foolish. He does not care much for jokes involving words or sentences. In fact he would rather act than talk all together, never learning far into making words sound pretty. He also has a love for the sport of killing, and the skill involved; in this way, he can gain some level of respect for people. Athes' has a great discription in my first post of his, but here are the cliff notes. Dark red skin. Two three-quarter-foot long purple horns coming out of his head, along with a bit of dark greyish hair. A white, twisted cloth band around his forhead. Dark, black eyes, no whites. Fanged teeth. Very muscular build, but average male height. Hard to tell his age because of his demon's face. No shirt, brown loin cloth going to his knees. No shoes. Clawed hands and feet. (Pretty much look at a demon sprite from the game). Athes' voice is also unique in that it is low in tone, and crackly (not in a puberty kind of way, think of rice crispies). His speech pattern is as few words as possible, and a direct manner of saying them. Athes typically smells of ash and smoke. Athes is also exceptionally hot to the touch. Athes does not like the cold. Being a demon of natural blood, Athes posesses a wide range of magical abilites: fireballs, earthquakes, lightning, fear spells, etc. In addition to this Athes is good in fighting with his hands, magic, as well as his blade. Athes will not hesitate to take a cut to get the upperhand in a fight, as he has a extremely high tollerance for pain. Athes weapon is a double sided obsidian swallow (something like this). He is very proficient with it. If the glass ever breaks or becomes dull, he'll use fire magic to make a new blade or to fix one. It is the weapon of his tribe of demons. If more info is needed let me know.

Far away, in a dimly lit cavern, a shadowy figure was waiting. A second figured glided in, and sat down opposite the first. "Well? Did you find what we needed to know?" the first person asked, bruskly. "Yes, I overheard every word." "And?" "They suspect nothing. They remain totally convinced of what they believe happened." "Excellent! The long term plans can now move forward, unchanged, without raising suspicions. You've done well. Leave now, and continue with the next phase." The messenger bowed slightly, and glided back out of the room. "It will be a long time before I have my revenge - but I can wait!" Slowly, quietly, but with ever increasing volume and power, the cavern began to echo with Omen's maniacal laughter.

Ok here's how it should look. Make sure you have the Magppie application in the Cythera folder. Make sure you have the Pathes folder in the Cythera folder. Make sure the Pumpkin Patch is in the Patches folder. Open the Magpie application to begin installation of the Pumpkin Path.

Epilogue Bly walked through the darkened passageways of LandKing Hall, musing about the events of (he now came to realize) the past several weeks. He was glad that he was alive at all-- without the assistance of his spellbook, he would have been another monument. It turned out that the book had combined two of the spells on the 'Restricted' page, the spell to rewind time and the prototype magical shield, to create a spell that would retroactively shield someone from harmful magic. Bly was glad to be heading home. For one thing, he would be as far from Rapierian as possible. That nutjob of a necromancer had started laughing maniacally as the Wizard had been creating Satori's memorial, and hadn't stopped for at least half an hour. By the time it had ended, Retsy and Enna were both hiding behind trees. The party had gone their separate ways at Cademia. Before he returned to LandKing Hall to prepare to return to Earth, Bly advised Muse to talk to King Alaric about returning home. Bly, on the other hand, instead of heading for the Hall immediately, took the opportunity of his return to clear up a number of small misunderstandings. For one thing, now the chroniclers who had spread the most inaccurate version of his story at least knew that he was not ten feet tall. As for Muse... he would have to look Muse up, see if she lived near his location on Earth. Maybe, he and she could become friends. Bly continued to pace through the dark halls. At this time of the night, everyone was asleep. Well, almost everyone. A shadowy figure was standing a few dozen paces off in the hallway. Bly groaned. He knew that silhouette a little too well. It was Magpie. "Hello, Magpie," said Bly. "What keeps you up at this time of the night?" Magpie grinned. "I had to stay up, and watch the warrior's triumphant return!" he said, brightly. Bly wasn't at all sure what to make of that. "Whatever. Seriously, why are you up this late?" Magpie grinned again. "Why are you up this early?" Bly was beginning to remember why he generally tried to avoid talking to the fool. That said, he was just slightly glad to see him this time. Something Magpie said had been nagging at him. "Magpie," he asked, "when we last spoke, you said something about magic being lies. What did you mean by that?" Magpie's grin stayed prominent. "Because they are! You lied to the universe and told it you were not dead! And the universe believed you!" It took Bly a while to figure that one out, but when he did, it didn't help. Magpie was referring to when Wizard and Muse had healed Bly with the page from his spellbook. Bly tried to reason with Magpie, even though he knew it was futile. "Yes, but--" Magpie wasn't done talking. "Magpie has to be getting some sleep, so that he can know that he's woken up in the morning. One thing more, I have to say to you: You see your journey as a quest, as an adventure, as a game...do you not?" Bly nodded. "Well, I wouldn't put it at all like that--" "Well then. If it is like a game, then I ask you this. Did you win... or did you lose?" Bly unsure of how to respond, said "Wait a minute--" ...but there was no one there. The hallway was empty, Magpie having vanished as silently as he had appeared. Bly continued walking, until he found what he was looking for: the cupboard in which he had stored all his Cytheran gear when he had last returned to Earth. Bly then put all of his equipment and oboloi in it. As he was about to put his spellbook in, he was struck by a sudden thought. "Book," he said, suddenly excited, "could you make a small copy of yourself, something I could take to Earth with me?" A pause. Then, the spellbook began to shudder. A small, leather-bound book, about the size of a journal, appeared in a flash and landed on top of the spellbook. Bly took the journal and put the large book in the cupboard, then locked it with a magical lock. Now all that he had left to do was actually return. Walking through the door of the magical chamber, Bly stood in the center triangle. The candles and braziers, as always, were lit, and the triangle was glowing. Bly closed his eyes, and with an exertion of magical power, dreamed he was back on Earth. It wasn't hard. He could feel himself fading in to... ** _ _** "...brary will c lose in 15 minutes. If you have books to check out, please take them to the Circulation Desk now. The Library will close in 15 minutes." Bly sat up in his chair with a start. It looked as if he had nodded off again. He really would have to get more sleep one of these days... Then the memories flooded back. Cythera. The quest to find the Tree of Life. The final end of Alterius. Had it all been a dream? It certainly hadn't felt like one. What could have happened? Was it real? Bly put the book he had been reading on a reshelving cart, and turned to leave the library. Then, he noticed that he had apparently left something on the table. The object was a DVD case, with a DVD-R inside. On the disc in ornate Gothic lettering, written with marker pen, was 'Spellbook'. Bly looked at the case, blinked, shook his head, and looked at it again. Then, he took the DVD and walked out of the library, knowing three simple things. _It was real. Cythera exists. I will return. _

So with that, the party headed back to the tavern with lowered spirits. Yet a slight hope remained in each that somehow, someway, sometime...they could free Talos. ------------------ "I'm a controversial figure. My friends either dislike me or hate me."

The party (where my guy is) waited a little longer untill the hunter could walk, Thomas picked up most of the hunters gear and carried it for the wounded person. The figures walked in a circle with the hunter and thomas in the middle. After a couple of days traveling, Thomas managed to make small talk with the party. Thomas was listening to the hunter teach him a song when one of the figures halted and said," Kortash ahead, duxith." "Whats that mean?" whispered thomas crouching, and copying what the others did. "It means, brigands, 12" repiled the hunter. "oh and my name is Traken." ooc: trying to keep this alive. I'll post later, when I have more time. bic: ------------------ Why do we kill people, who kill people, to show that killing people is wrong?

Thought I should bump this topic given some recent developments in SheepShaver. In an effort to get Ferazel's Wand working in SheepShaver, it was discovered that the gamma correcting functions were not working as they should. This affected the gamma fade affects that Ferazel's Wand, EV: Nova, and Slithereens use. For some reason, Ambrosia's Monitor_Tool was crashing when the gamma fades were not working with these games. Cythera does have several fade effects, which do not run in SheepShaver, but they did not prevent the game from playing when they were unavailable. These include the fade through black from the Ambrosia logo to the splash screen, the fade from the splash screen to the menu, and the fade when a character goes to sleep. However, thanks to Myrd from the Emaculation forums, the fade effects have been corrected. This means that Ferazel's Wand, EV:Nova, and Slithereens all run in SheepShaver now. An unintended effect is that Cythera's fade effects also work in the latest builds! To download the latest builds, see the links near the bottom of the page on this Emaculation topic. Jehezekel sat in the courtyard with the children, listening to the old people tell tales of their far away youth. Soon everyone would return to their places, but for now it was nice to be gathered in Pnyx, in spite of the wedding-night tragedy. Sometimes for a bride, And sometimes for a corpse, But only those who listen know For whom the bell tolls.

OoC I will spend a little more time on Selax versus Zacarutu than the rest because Selax at least is one of my characters, giving me a bit more control. I will also be finishing up my subplot with Selax. BiC The chaotic fighting continued all around Pnyx. Medoc battled the daemon, Selax battled Zacarutu, and Moonshadow at last cornered Thern on the upper floor of Pnyx. Medoc, after a short battle, defeated the daemon and began to search for a way upstairs. After a bit of a battle, Moonshadow managed to catch Thern with a bolt of magic that hurled him out of one of the nearby windows, presumably causing him to fall to his death. All around Pnyx, Selax battled Zacarutu. He quickly saw that his opponent was used to catching and killing mages, not melee fighters that were as maneuverable as he or as experienced as Selax. Selax also determined that there was nothing that he could do for Gin other than perhaps to put him out of his misery. Zacarutu was heavily magic resistant and possessed some magic of his own, yet he could not destroy Selax. They met one last time over the Sea near Pnyx, which was now alive with Scylla hoping for food from the battle. At last, Selax got a stroke through Zacarutu's defenses, and it went deep into his chest. Zacarutu fell into the Sea and the Scylla dove on him... When Thern fell through the window, his army almost instantly lost cohesion. Without unity, they could not stand against the united armies of the citizens and mages and were soon defeated. The outpouring of relief at their victory caused both sides to almost forget their quarrels, and Wizard watched with a smile, knowing that at last the tensions could begin to heal. In the Void... Again and again, the two massive avatars smashed at each other, sending out staggering amounts of energy in all directions. Most of the realities around Cythera had already been dead for ages, but most were damaged by the titanic battle (Cythera was protected because of the barrier that Alaric and the elementals were generating). Still, neither could overcome the other, and, at last, both drew back from each other with a snarl, deciding to win this conflict through other means. Each returned to his army and renewed his Eternal War upon the other... After the battle, Selax headed south and met the other elementals outside Ur-Sylph's prison. They talked about recent events and reminisced for a while about the past. At length, Selax and Ur-Sylph were left alone at the entrance. The others stood a distance off, ready to renew the prison barrier when Ur-Sylph entered. The bargain was that at some future date the elementals would release Ur-Sylph. "You didn't tell us the whole truth, did you, old one?" Ur-Sylph said. He alone of all the elementals save Alaric and Magpie had sensed another presence besides that of the Death King. Selax had only told them of that the Death King was trying to bring another army into Cythera and must be kept out. Selax shook his head. "Of course not. I can't trust any of you further than I can throw you." "I agree with that. Still, I would be your friend again as in the past." "Perhaps, some day," he paused for moment but continued, "here take these. You need the practice." Selax handed to Ur-Sylph the swords of Balthon the elemental. Ur-Sylph nodded and stepped back into his prison. The barrier snapped back into place. Selax and the other elementals left. On his way back to Pnyx, Selax became aware that voice that had caused his recent visions sought to speak with him again. "Very well, finish your tale." He said aloud. Again, he fell into another vision... _Not quite the void this time. A vast hall of darkness, filled with daemons and all sorts of other vile creatures. At its end, Malkor stood bound in chains before a huge daemon seated on a throne. Selax knew at once that he looked on a creature of legend—the First Lord of Darkness, almost forgotten by the end of the first age of the void and now remembered only in vague legends. He held in his hands a crystal ball that glowed white, and then Selax knew what was about to happen. It had been said that although this Lord of Darkness was strong he was only a match for one of the Chimaera and sought to pick them off one at a time. It was further said that they had at last destroyed him with ease. Now, Selax was about to witness the truth. "An effective prison, don't you think?" the Lord of Darkness said with a laugh, gesturing at the crystal ball that he held, "It'll hold your precious wife until I say otherwise. Now, I ask one more time: will you serve me? "I...I...I can't..." whispered Malkor at last, shaking whether in rage, grief, or fear Selax couldn't tell. "A pity. Oh well, now I shall just make sure that your precious Chimaera can never find her...or your remains." The Lord of Darkness gestured and a portal opened. Selax recognized the kind of portal by the pink glow around it. It was a portal that a random destination—a portal that opened just to somewhere in the void. The Lord of Darkness threw the crystal ball—a prison that held Neina the one being for which Malkor truly cared—into the portal, throwing to a random point in the void. "NO!" Malkor howled, standing up and pulling at the chains that bound him. At first, the daemons laughed at his efforts; they apparently didn't see what Selax saw—the dark halo that was beginning to surround him, that he was beginning to pull into himself. Then, they did. They did as Malkor's physical form began to warp and distort. His eyes began to redden, his face began to pale, and his armor began to blacken. Yet the change stopped midway, leaving him between this form and his other. The chain that had bound Malkor broke, flying in many pieces everywhere. He stood up with a roar and the darkness rose about him. What happened afterward was not pretty. Malkor tore the daemons to shreds, including the Lord of Darkness (whom he pulled apart molecule by molecule). Then, he left. He disguised the change that had happened to him and returned to his companions—obviously the Chimaera of old. Selax saw their long search for Neina, saw the Chimaera give up long before Malkor, saw Malkor's descent into the dark and the beginnings of his hatred of the Chimaera, and at last saw one of his greatest evils. Malkor went to the Chimaera and told them that he had found a way to merge with/embody Death itself. (This was the process that had begun when he had killed the Lord of Darkness.) The Chimaera aided Malkor in completing the process, and the Death King was born..._ Selax turned away from Pnyx and went up into the mountains. Here, hidden deep in the earth with no outlets that anything smaller than a rabbit could use, Selax hid the oddities that he had collected over the years. He entered his lair and paused before one of the shelves and spoke to object on it. "Well, I know now. I thank you for taking me into your confidence, but what do you want me to do now?" he asked the crystal ball that pulsated with white. Meanwhile, at Pnyx, Alaric had arrived and sat in judgement in the Pnyx's main hall. Under his wise guidance and because of his sage decisions, the tensions and the incidents that had occurred at Pnyx would soon be almost forgotten. Almost everyone was pardoned when it was seen how completely Thern had manipulated everyone and also because they were few were not guilty in some way. Both mages and citizens made the appropriate kinds of restitution. Only the citizens and mages who had seriously harmed each other in some way before the day of the Battle were punised. Alaric also healed Lindus, who had been popular with the citizens. All told, Alaric was able to heal most of the damage that Thern had done. Talryn was put on a kind of a parole. He was released into the custody of Thomas and Etiko and soon left Pnyx. He spoke to no one of the Death King, knowing that general knowledge of such a being might create chaos in Cythera, as Selax also believed. (He and Selax had talked of it before Selax had left Pnyx.) So ends the Team Story Witch Hunt. I thank everyone who participated, although I think that this TS went on a little long, had somewhat low participation, and didn't completely achieve its goals. I might polish up or make some more changes to this post later. I cannot lock or unpin this topic, so I leave that to Avatara.

My troubles with the rolling pin continue. I actually got pretty far in my first attempt, but that's because my followers were doing all the fighting. Realizing I was missing the point, I started over. This time no followers, just me and my rolling pin. That's when I kept losing my rolling pin to unicorns. Is it cheating to use the sapphire book trick in order to gain access to the Replicate spell early in the game? That's what I did. So I have a rolling pin, I have replicate, I'm all set for dozens of rolling pins, right? So I directed nexus to LKH, replicate a crate, drag it to Alaric, fill it with my rolling pin and other assorted booty, and... cannot smash apart the crate with my bare hands. I could see no alternative to inviting Hector into my party, giving him my rolling pin, and shaking him down. This worked, and I replicated several copies of the rolling pin, but I was disappointed that I had to get a follower to do so. At least I can smash crates now, right? And kill unicorns? No, and no. Apparently I cannot smash a crate with a rolling pin. And the several rolling pins I had on hand weren't enough to effectively hit a unicorn. But I did learn that you can throw a rolling pin short distances. I guess that's kinda cool? There's a probability of the rolling pin disappearing forever though.
