Vote early and vote often(only once per month, though)! Your vote CAN make a difference. It's the patriotic thing to do. The official rules, as always, are right (url="http://"http://www.macclassics.com/cythera/cotmrule.htm")here(/url). Good luck to everyone competing.

I vote for New Horizons, Part 3.

And I'll cast my vote for Cause and Effect, Part One - I read through some of New Horizons, but it didn't seem to have quite the sense of urgency that Cause and Effect did.

    Me too.

Doesn't this coughusecoughlesscough UBB Software allow polls?

  • Ordinarily, the chronicle of the month would be set now, but since Slayer's Guide to Cythera is currently down, I'll leave voting open. The chronicle of the month will be decided when Slayer's Guide to Cythera returns to service.

Yes, but andrew has not enabled them.

  • Polls probably aren't enabled because they'd be abused, in fashion of spamming. The current method works perfectly fine.

  • On an unrelated note, Katerei should make a villain named Jadis. It would make a great villain, and of all people, Katerei would know how to manupulate Jadis to evil needs.

(edit)Wow, I actually spelled Katerei right on my first try! However, I should be better about knowing stuff like that, after how many times that has been done to my real name.(/edit)

It works like this: (with (url="http://"http://www.phpbb.com")phpBB(/url) software)

You each get one vote, and that is recorded into the PHP database. So each username can vote once.
    Guests are unable to vote.

I believe polls are not enabled in part because of the types of polls that would be used (in places like the B &B; or Just Chat in particular) in that somehow, someone is going to get hurt and make a big deal about it with complaining to ASW (it happens). Andrew has better things to do than to worry about abuse of polls, not to mention enabling them.

Furthermore, the demand for polls has not been exceedingly high. Several people have expressed interest, but not nearly enough to make the change worthwhile to the majority of people. If more than half of the people on most of the boards asked for the feature, andrew would probably enable polls.

And before you go making a petition to enable polls, ask yourself the question "Is that feature really necessary?" I mean, its not like we use it that often, perhaps once a month. And yes, there are possibly many things someone could make a poll about, but half of them are most likely not worthwhile and after a while it would get repetitive.

The only real benefit I can see for enabling polls right now, is it gives voters some anonymousity when voting for the Chronicle of the Month, which also helps when some people's votes affect the way other people vote. (like, well - everyone is voting for story A or B, even though I like C the most, I'll vote for A or B because C will never get enough votes to win; or, <member> is voting A, so I should vote A too so I don't feel out of place) Granted, the latter doesn't really happen here very often, but hidden polls would reduce the chances of that more, and give some of the timid members a blanket of cover so they feel more confident about voting.

The current system allows the voter to explain why they chose that vote, that's also possible in poll topics (I think, in most systems anyway) though it might defeat the purpose of a private vote. In that case, the constructive criticism and compliments could simply be posted after the chronicle itself (or in the corresponding chron announcement, which gives the author some PR)

I'll stop now, I'm straying off-topic and I'm likely to confuse everyone if I continue.

What? Huh? I'm confused; why do you say this? There's a few issues with this-

    1. The name 'Jadis' is copyright to CS Lewis. Jadis was the Queen of Charn in The Magician's Nephew and the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, in the Chronicles of Narnia.

    2. Other than the pre-formed villain bias for the name, why would it make a great villain?

    3. I already have enough permanent characters to deal with; any more I create are for special reasons (i.e. Hand of Fate or BYOS).

    4. Why me? How am I more likely to know how to manipulate a character into wickedness? Is it because my location is the House of Charn?

I am aware of this. However, there are two points to look at.
    1. Are not the names in Cythera copyrighted? So technically, we are breaking those too...
    2. The name could also be "John" but that does not sound imposing, does it?

Well, first off, let's list her characteristics...
    1. Cannot die of old age (with bad side effects...)
    2. Imposing figure of power
    3. Magical power, background of power
    4. There aren't many villains that appear often in TSs.

Well, good question. It could just as easily be me, or Cache, or Slayer, or Dusk, or Bryce, etc. I guess it is mainly because your name was the first that came to mind, being that your post was directly above mine. As for "House of Charn" being your location, that probably did influence me, subconciously.
