The Alraeican Tavern - Part VIII

"Ow, watch where you swing that thing!" Shi screeched, narrowly avoiding being hit by the cage.
Silverfish dropped his head a little, looking apologetic. "I didn't see you there."
Shi glared. "Hrm. That's what they all say!" Silverfish opened his mouth to add something, but she cut him off with a wave of her hand. "Never mind, now. Why are you in a cage?"
----
Meanwhile, Moonshadow had righted a chair for herself by the counter and sat down, observing the two patrons who were busily throwing bones into large jute sacks. They in turn kept throwing wary glances at her, and whenever they noticed her watching, picked up a little speed. Without doubt, they were hoping to be gone quickly.
Satisfied, Moonshadow leaned back. Ordering people around wasn't normally her thing, but sometimes..
I wonder what Shi is up to...
---
"Just testing something..." Silverfish replied, looking at the phaerie warily. She seemed harmless enough, but he wasn't sure if she had forgiven him.
"I see." Shi said, flying close enough to grab hold of the chain and seat herself on top of the cage... where Silverfish would be unable to see her perform magic. "Well then. Have fun testing!" She said, drawing a slightly glowing rune on the top of the cage, before taking off from her perch and up towards the rafters.
Let's see him get out of that, then. She thought to herself, a mischievous grin on her face. Whoever would have thought a Lock spell would come in handy one day... Almost knocking her out of the air with a cage, indeed. This post has been edited by Moonshadow : 20 December 2006 - 01:31 PM

Cat noticed, out of the corner of her eye, a large swinging something. She turned around, and saw Silverfish swinging around in a large cage. She was obviously restraining herself, and her fingers kept twitching in the direction of the cage. She looked like she wanted to pounce.
"What are you doing?" she asked Silverfish curiously.
"Oh, nothing much, just hanging around."
Cat grinned, and said, "Literally, I notice. I know what you were trying to do. It used to work, too. Oh, and by the way, what does the glowing symbol on top of that contriviance(sp?) mean?" -
"There's no glowing sym-" Silverfish glanced up, "-bol..."
He stopped, and tried unmaking the cage after his usual manner, but to no avail.
"It appears to mean that Shi decided to play some sort of trick on me. I hope it's an explosive rune, those disappear when they activate."
"How would that make a difference?" Cat asked.
"I'm not good at working with magically enhanced metal. As long as that rune is there, the metal will be magically enhanced. If the rune were removed, the metal would be normal metal again, and I would be able to work with it."
Silverfish stuck his head out the side, "I have several options for escape, but at this point the hazards far outweigh my desperation. The safest option for everybody, would be for the rune to be removed"
-
At the start of the conversation, Shi clamped her hand in front of her mouth to stifle her giggles -- it wouldn't do for them to find her! --, but when Silverfish started talking about explosive runes, she couldn't help it anymore, and instead used her hands to hold on to one of the support beams so she wouldn't fall off during her fit of laughter.
When the last of her giggles subsided, the implication of what Silverfish had said hit her. Explosive Runes?? She repeated in her mind, a bit dismayed. As if I'd ever hurt someone! Oh, that...grrr, the nerve! Shi huffed, crossing her arms in front of her chest. I was going to help him out, but... hrm. -

I'm curious: who here is planning to join the next TS (whenever it starts)?
BiCRapierian turned around and noticed Silverfish caught in the cage.
"It appears that somebody else in this place actually might have a sense of humor! What a relief! I was getting worried that you were all like him over there!" he said, pointing to Selax. "Now, here's a situation that could easily become very amusing..."
With that, Rapierian's golem suddenly stepped back inside. Rapierian had decided to be generous and to spare whatever ruffian the golem might caught; thus, he had simply recalled the creature. Mentally, he ordered it over to the cage where Silverfish was stuck. Distracted as he was, Silverfish didn't notice the golem until the cage hit the creature's face. The golem roared in fury and began swinging at the cage, determined to smash it and its occupant...
Meanwhile, Rapierian noticed that the two patrons were still clearing the Tavern of bones. Relieved that they were not done (as he had previously assumed), he walked over to the bag of bones that they had gathered and began to rummage around inside it. He eventually pulled out enough bones to make two or three skeletons. He dumped the pile on Uzsuy's table.
"Here, be a kind fellow and watch this for me, would you?" he told the startled Uzsuy. Then, Rapierian walked back over next to Mort and sat down. Then, he started to see if he could pester Mort again.
"You know, Mort, I think that you need something to cheer you up. Here, try this!" Rapierian laughed, as he threw another vial of something at Mort. It was a bottle of food-coloring that he had picked up while he was in the back doctoring the drinks. (Of course, he'd left behind the necessary amount of money to pay for it.) He had rigged it up so that it would dye things purple. If it worked properly, it'd be next to impossible to remove, unless one knew exactly how to do it.

Cat leapt at the golem, claws out, and landed on its back, hissing furiously. Her weight was enough to knock the golem over, and before it could recover, she quickly cut through some of the bars of Silverfish's cage with her claws. As the golem got to its feet, Cat tried to punch it, but she couldn't make a dent on the (clay? stone?) and almost broke her fingers. She neatly ducked the golem's clumsy blows, and tried again with her claws. All that happened was a row of scratches, showing where her claws cut. Hissing fiercely, she jumped into the rafters, trying to get the benefit of the height.
The golem went back to punching the now empty cage, ignoring Cat.
Somewhat surprised, Cat carefully took off her boots, tied them to her belt, and leapt down on the golem. This time, she hung on to its back with three sets of claws, and scratched the golem with her others. The golem tried to reach her, but its arms weren't made to reach backwards, and it couldn't touch her. After nearly a minute, she leapt back up into the rafters and put her boots back on, letting someone else have a go at fighting the (now badly scratched) golem. -
Talryn, somewhat annyoned by the noise while he was trying to a conversation with Wizard and Selax, concentrated on what dark arts he knew and briefly assumed control of the golem and it sat down on the floor. He got up walked over to it, healed it's scratches and then sat back down next to Selax.
"Right, where was i?"
OOC: Ill join in. Assuming its not right after the tavern, if so it depends on the timing. I have finals soon and a couple of projects that will pop up. BIC:

Cat considered having another go at the golem, but since Silverfish was safe, she decided against it, but stayed in the rafters for a few more minutes just in case it remembered her.
-
As Silverfish went hurtling out of his cage, the vial of food coloring hit him in the back, and diverted his vector just enough that he landed in Mort's beer mug. Silverfish instantly absorbed the mug of beer, and purple beer ran over the table.
He stood up and surveyed the damage, "good thing that mug was metal," he muttered to himself, "otherwise it could have been much worse."
Several nearby patrons were looking suspiciously at their suddenly eroded dinnerwere, so Silverfish left the Tavern quickly to find ruffians willing to 'donate' some metal to him.
-
"Hey! He spoiled my fun!" Rapierian yelled, irritated that Silverfish had taken the dye meant for Mort. Annoyed, he pulled out a random vial of something and, after making sure that none of the ingredients of the potion were rare, threw it at Mort. Then, he noticed the golem still batting at the empty cage and realized that he'd forgotten to maintain control of it, enabling to run wild.
Rapierian shrugged and walked back over to Uzsuy's table and to his pile of bones. In a few moments, Rapierian had raised two or three skeletons to function as his bodyguards.
"Thank you, sir," he told Uzsuy, "I'll have to remember not to pester you as much as everyone else in here."
Spotting Cat in the rafters above the golem, Rapierian had a sudden idea. He lifted his hands and flung a bolt of lightning at the beam that Cat was sitting on. Although Cat was unhurt (as Rapierian had intended), the beam burst into splinters, sending her tumbling down toward the now very angry golem.
-
{{ That's my third beer gone! }} Mort lamented, throwing his hands in the air in exasperation. A frustrated yowl from above drew his attention to Cat, who was now hovering just out of the golem's reach, the claws of all four extremeties extended and pointed directly at her erstwhile prey. The whole tavern shook each time the golem unsuccessfully tried to jump up and catch her.
"I had 'im! Who stopped me? Lemme at 'im!" Cat hissed.
{{ My goodness, did I do that? }} Mort experimented a little, pointing one bony finger at the levitating cat elf, and flicking it minutely up and down. Cat bobbed up and down with each tiny movement. {{ I think I've got the hang of it, }} Mort commented. His eyes suddenly glowed wickedly, and he began to raise Cat up towards the roof.
Since it seemed Mort was going to push her through the ceiling, Cat braced her feet against it and pushed back as hard as she could. "Hey, Mort, I was only trying to help, you know? Don't hurt me! Please?"
{{ Ready, Cat? }} Mort asked. Cat finally caught on, and grinned ferally at her target, still hopping around down below.
Mort let go, and Cat sprang.
OoC OK, I'm on dialup from this evening, so I wanted to get one semi-decent post in before I left. I'll try to keep up with things, but don't count on me. BiC

She landed on the golem again, and pinned it to the floor, scratching and hissing. After several minutes, she had succeeded in clawing its head off, and the golem turned back into dirt.
"All right!" she said happily, then noticed Rapierian and his skeleton bodyguards.
"Hmmm...". Cat thought about the chances of Rapierian having the necessary ingredients required to kill her, deliberated about the worst he could do to her, and decided it wasn't really worth trying to claw his head off too. She wandered over to the bar and ordered a drink. -
Talryn whinced in a small bit of pain as the golem died. Created by the dark arts it was, but it was made out of dirt which delt with his druidic nature. Seeing that he was not getting any response from Selax or Wizard, he decided to try raising the golem. He piled the dirt into once place then sat down and concentrated. Slowly, the dirt became animated from a mixture of his subconcious (sp?) knowledge of the Dark Arts and druidic magic.
A few moments later the dirt soldified into a golem. Talryn cheered and asked it to go get him a drink, when it returned, Talryn manipulated the golem a bit and it smiled and then sat on the floor near its new master. Woot, i have my own golem now. This might actually come in handy on my next adventure. Talryn glanced over at Rapierian to see his reaction.

Meanwhile, Silverfish had acquired a goodly sum of metal from ruffians, and was now trying to get a room at the Two-Tailed Rat.
"Good time of day, fair Apis." he began, "Do you have a vacancy I could fill?"
"I wish I did, but you outlandish folk tend to scare away the regulars. So I'm afraid I don't. Have you asked at the Alraeican Tavern?"
"I was hoping not to be seen there until I took care of something."
"Try the back door, Brianna or Rana would be happy to keep it secret for a bit."
"Thank-you, fair Apis. May your house overflow with good things!" He gave her a brand-new tankard for her trouble, and sneaked off to the Alraeican Tavern.
An hour later, Silverfish was inspecting the deadbolt he had just installed on the inside of his door. He was glad that Brianna had such a small room for him to stay in; although a slightly bigger room would be more reasonable, a full sized room would be a waste of space, and less private. He looked around the cabinet with an air of satisfaction, laid down on the floor, and closed his eyes... -_-

After drinking and observing the golem and discovered that it would stay, meaning it wouldn't fall apart because he didn't summon it right, Talryn began to wonder if he could summon a fire golem...
-
Wizard felt the ends of his thoroughly scorched beard with disgust. "Why that little. . ." he muttered to himself, watching Rapierian from where he sat. "I guess it can be repaired. Though instant hair growth is not one of my specialties, I'll try my hand at it," he looked to Selax for a response but was given none.
Running his hand over his face, Wizard concentrated on lengthening his now considerably-shorter beard. From Talryn's view, it looked as though the hair was being pulled from Wizard's face, following his hand by some unseen force.
Presently, Wizard had finished. "There that's better," he said, his expression now pleased, "Don't you think so, Selax?"
Selax glanced at the old man before asking, "Better than what?"
Wizard sighed and adjusted his position. "Elementals." He then turned to Talryn, "Anyways, you were trying to tell me something, Talryn?"

If anyone wants to distract Selax (i.e. draw him away from Wizard) for Rapierian, just have Rapierian approach your character and ask for help in doing so.
BiCRapierian stared at Mort in exasperation: the potion in that vial seemed to have done nothing at all. (Rapierian sincerely doubted that Mort's telekiness was tied to it anyway.) Turning, he saw Talryn's golem, stared at it for a moment, and shrugged; it was really no business of him.
Then, something occurred to him.
Rapierian walked over to Talryn and said, "If you are thinking about trying to summon a fire golem, I don't recommend it. Such attempts often end up blowing thing, such as the summoner, up. Of course, I don't really know your abilities, so you might be able to manage it."
Talryn looked startled and stared at Rapierian suspiciously.
"Are you reading my mind or something?" he asked.
"No, it's just that the first thing that most people think of when they first manage to make a golem is 'can I make it out of fire,'" answered Rapierian in a distracted tone. He was staring thoughtfully at Wizard.
Hmm, well, it is Christmas, so we should have a Santa, thought Rapierian to himself. That crazy old man is close to looking like Santa, just needs a few minor changes, but how I can do those changes with that bulldog of an elemental around? I wonder if I could find someone willing to distract him for me...

Talryn nodded in thanks and went over and attempted to share his enthusiasm with Selax, who then got up and walked outside with Talryn reminding him of the deal and that reanimating things that Rapierian summoned might not be a good idea.

Mort stared wistfully at his fourth beer, and allowed his mind to wander back to the days before his death. They'd been good times, although he hadn't thought so at the time. Learning magic at the Magisterium, hanging around with (oh, what was his name?), his roommate... playing pranks on the janitor (that animated broomstick got him so worked up)... Best of all, he'd been so alive!
Mort sank deeper and deeper into his memories.

Alice plucked up the courage to try and strike up a converstaion with Mort, again. He turned, just in time to see the last vestiges of the lich fade away, and a sign fade into existence in his place. The sign read:
"This space is occupied by Mort, and don't you forget it. If you ignore this warning and sit in this spot, there will be consequences. Very icky consequences. You have been warned."

Alice blinked in surprise at the seat previously occupied by Mort just seconds ago. He looked around quickly, but no one else seemed to have noticed. "Did I do that?" he asked the air, puzzled. "But I didn't do anything! Um... I'm sorry?"
He peered at the sign again. "Icky consequences... what defines icky... and is that only if you try and sit there? This would be so much easier if he just used a mannequin..." Perplexed, Alice put his hand out and attempted to poke the sign.
