Welcome to the land of Cythera!

  • Welcome! Welcome!

There are soooooo many new people around, that I have decided to start a topic devoted to welcoming you all! The Cythera web board is about the last place left where you can go to find out and talk about the great game of, well, Cythera. This is where it lives on.

So, on behalf of all of us or all of me, we want to cordially greet all of you great new people. Please enjoy the time you are here and stay as long as like, which I hope is a really long time, else I'm sending the ninjas after you. :)

  • I also would like to extend welcomes to the newbies ^_^ Cgends and Turak; even CrazyChick and Sprong, though I don't know if they're still considered newbies. Am I forgetting anyone?

Okay guys, so here's how it works around here. You have to pick someone who's been around here for over three years, and you have to run every message you post through them. You also have to write chronicles, participate in TSs, reply to every thread here, and play Cythera for five hours a day. This might seem a bit overwhelming at first, but if you truly love Cythera. . .

  • How come the old newbies from last year (like me) didn't have to do that stuff? I don't even know how to participate in TSs.

  • Buzzy doesn't contribute? SHUN HIM!! Heehee, you know I'm having a laugh, right?

  • Ha ha ha. Nuuuuuutter! sorry, I just had to say that. I can't play cythera for five hours a day, I'm only allowed 3 hours a week! mean ol' dad.

  • U are all insane, I play when homework dosen't overwhelm me. THE game had a lot of time put into it ... all the refereaces to names mythology, greek, etc. cool stuff. as for running posts, go eat a polyp....mmm polyp. Seriously, the game is well designed and the forum is good, No lording over newbies. HaHa Elderberries (comic strip). Thanks for all the Vets for sustaining such a board, it is good to know people care about history.
    peace :)

  • Percinator's number one rule: Use proper spelling, grammar, etc.
BIG No-no: lol ya 1 time i waz in odemia i kiled every1.
My way: Heh, heh. One time I was in Odemia and I killed everyone.
    Welcome, all.

Yeah, I tend to agree with you, there. A while ago I started a thread about it on our forums at work: "The End of Civilization As We Know It", prompted by a decision by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority to allow txting-style language in exams, which to me is just plain ridiculous. Opinions about it are extremely polarised!

Anywho, welcome to all the newbies. Long may you stay! :)

  • Don't give people ideas, Slayer, there's not very much chatspeak around here ^_^ But I argue that "heh heh" and "lol" are not interchangable. "lol" isn't really used as an abbreviation anymore, merely a symbol that the poster is feeling lighthearted or friendly.

  • Me, i don't talk 'chat' unless it's a last resort. all i do is forget capital letters unless it's someone's username or i am typing Ambrosia or Cythera, both of which deserve capital letters and proper spelling.
i never use lol, i always say tee hee hee myself because it's funnier.

  • Too true CrazyChick, Laughter is the mediciane of the gods, Unless you are an Atheist...in which case its jsut funny! spelling things out is generaly better in the long run because college professors tend to get angry when they dont understand shorthand.

Couldn't agree more. I'm a grammar and spelling pedant as well ;) The exception is I occasionally drop capital letters in IM conversations, when I can't be bothered going back to correct them.

I hadn't heard about that ... must have missed the news items at that stage. That is plain ridiculous – at least they didn't actually implement it, thank God. Imagine: "Th Mrchnt ov Venis bi Shkspr iz a bok dat is vry impt 4 ppl 2dae." A tick for "good vocabulary and use of txt-based grammar" later, and the English language dies. Ugh. How long ago was it talked about?

PS Good to see another Kiwi on the boards :)

But seriously, that's a pretty awesome coincidence. This web board rocks. :D

We can neither confirm nor deny these allegations.

  • I don't know how to participate, and haven't bothered to ask for the entire year I've been registered (hey, my anniversary is approaching...).

And is October 7th considered new?

  • hey, i am kinda weird. i lapse into accents sometimes. when i went orienteering, i kept on talking to myself in a North Yorkshire accent and i couldn't stop. i know it was a north yorkshire accent because i read a lot and it sounded how it was spelt in the books.
Anyway, french is nothing by comparison. i sometimes speak japanese!

Whaddaya mean? <_< what secret invasion plans? my contact with the europan ufos tells me there is no secret invasion plans anywhere. But as Sgt. Colon said, "Tell me one thing you don't know about. Aha, you can't, can you?!? So we must know about everything!" :D So there! :p (Huh, now I'm confused!)

  • If you want to participate in TSs here's a summary of how to do it:
First: read through at least one story from the Best of Cythera and at least the most recent Alraeican Tavern (NOTE: this step is optional, though very helpful)

Second: Make up a character, post it in Character Info. (NOTE: Read Theo Nean Donly's introduction, it has some basic guidelines that you should follow.)

Third: Start posting In Character in the Alraeican Tavern. (NOTE: I think of Selax and Avatara as the best examples, but everyone who has been posting in the Tavern recently does well. (I exempt myself, I'm still pretty new)

Fourth: Join a TS whenever it starts. TS's generally launch from the Tavern, so that is one good reason to be active in the Tavern.

There you have it, a complete summary on how to start participating in the IC Cythera community!

  • mmm, thats some good story line.
I started a preface to a story, but nobody care to respond on the Chron... what do I godda' do http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/style_ima...cons/icon14.gif
