tavara's stronghold

  • Is there anything exciting in here - or essential? Because I am finding it next to impossible to get past the four demons, though I should dearly like to meet Tavara who presumably is also 900 years old or whatever, not to mention mad as a goose. Any tips as to how to fight four demons at once? I have cloak of herakles, sword of heroes, mystic armour & mystic helmet and have been bombing them but nothing seems to do the trick (at least not to all four before I am dead again)! Most dispiriting.

  • Who is Tavara?

All that is in the dissappearing fortres is a crystal ball (I forget what it does; I think it gives you a birds eye view of everything). Either way, it's a good place for leveling up!

  • An odd helm is a must when fighting demons. It also helps to have a lot of HP, attack points, and sword points.

Tavara is (presumably) the non-violent lich in the stronghold. The historian in Cademia can tell you about him, if you ask.

  • thank you! I had always been rather suspicious of the odd helmets, thinking it must be some fiendish trick. I was very disappointed in Tavara though, I must say, I thought he would have something to say for himself after all these years at the very least.

  • How to get through, though? I understand these things come alive after you've killed them, which has always been a nightmarish thing for me, watching the dead come alive again. I can't keep killing these things! My old strategy was killing one thing at a time until I got to the vital cargo in the basement. Since these things come alive again, that doesn't work. :frown:

Ah yes, I've also tried running like hell. No go there either. :frown:

  • A few suggestions of things I found helpful.

    1. If Timon and Aethon are in your party, tell them both to retreat. They will get slaughtered, and Aethon's arrows won't hurt demons anyway.

    2. Use bombs to open doors. Save your magic for if/when you need it.

    3. Cast resist blows on yourself.

    4. Set Hector and Melanger to either attack nearest or attack strongest.

    5. When you've killed all the undead (the blue ones), bomb the door to the next ring. Then walk towards the door until hopefully just one demon begins to exit, then walk back the way you came until the rest of the stupid demons walk back into the corner and you are left with just one. Tell Hector and Melanger to go at it and pound the crap out of him. Don't forget mystic arrow spells - they work well if you are too far away from the demon to help. If any of your characters need a dose of life, just ask Timon to heal them.

    6. Once first demon is dead, repeat above.

Alternatively, once there are only one or two demons left, set Hector and Melanger to each attack, and go into the final compartment. The lich in there will not hurt you. And if you need to get out of there quick after you have whatever it is you find, just Directed Nexus to safety amd a quick healing from Alaric.

The above assumes that you have equipped Hector with an enhanced sword (he will be unable to damage magical entities without one) and that Melanger is wielding mystic gauntlets (again, he needs these to damage demons). I would not recommend attacking the disappearing fort without at least one other character with a powerful weapon to help you.

    Hope this helps.

  • also, if you have the fireball spell, use that. It Really works!!!(In about 2 casts)

  • Cloak of Heracles? It is actually a real item in the game? I thought was only a legend...

So, can anyone give me a hint to where it might be found? Currently wearing only a fur cloak...

  • Who's Heracles? What I did to take out the demons (unregistered) was to send in Hector and Meleager (Hector had an upgraded sword, Meleager was just bait) to get targeted be the demons. I came in with my sword of heroes and kicked some demon posterior. I think everyone had odd helmets (I didn't know what they did, though).

  • The fur cloak is probably what he's
talking about. Also, it's probably called
    Hercules, not Hericles. Maybe someone
called it that in the game, which could
    even be a mistake. Right?

  • Hercules is the Roman equivalent of the Greek Heracles, much in the same way that Jupiter is the Roman equivalent of the Greek Zeus.

  • Where can you get the aforementioned gauntlets? :)

  • I'm not sure, but I seem to remember the gauntlets being in the same place as the strange device (below Pnyx).

  • Confirmed. They are in the same chest as the strange device under Pynx.

  • In the book about Semius the golem hunter it says he goes out in the famed cloak of Herakles - that's the only reason I called the fur cloak that. Sorry, I didn't mean to cause any major confusion.

  • Where is this so-called book?

    Cotten Kelsh

  • There is a copy of it in the Judge's house in Catamarca (Metopes I think his name is) and I'm fairly sure there's one in the library at LandKing Hall, and definitely one in the library at Pnyx. If you chat to Anisa about golems and Machaon she tells you about it.

  • Other than the purple crystal ball, what else can be found at the stronghold that's worth all the trouble of killing the seemingly endless demons and liches?

    ------------------

  • There's a coffer with a ring that you need to use to get into Tavara's vanishing stronghold.
